I posted something recently about my experience with Lost Bags, and made some service-oriented comments.
In a post entitled Bag Matching and Lost Bags, Adam Shostack points out that "Bag matching is a real security measure, designed to ensure that you're on the same flight as your bag. ... Shouldn't they not be letting 350,000 bags go astray every month?"
This error rate is a direct result of the half-baked security measures we all have to undergo at airports. There are restrictions about carry-on bags. So more people check their bags. So baggage handling systems are overloaded, and error rates increase. See my earlier post on Service-Oriented Security.
